- Shut off power at the breaker and close the valves on either side of the pump.
- Disconnect the unions on the intake and discharge sides — have a bucket ready, some water will drain out.
- Remove the old pump from the pad and set the new one in its place, matching the same orientation.
- Reconnect the unions hand-tight plus a quarter turn — overtightening cracks the fittings.
- Prime the pump with water before restoring power — running a pump dry destroys the seal within seconds.
- Open the valves, restore power, and check for leaks at both unions over the next 24 hours.
If your old pump's wiring uses a different voltage than your new one (some pumps ship dual-voltage but arrive wired for 230V), you'll need to rewire the pump's wiring compartment to match — consult the pump's manual for the voltage-change diagram, or call an electrician if you're not comfortable with it.
